Back in 2024, Jaylen Brown was passed over for the Paris Olympics roster for Team USA. After Kawhi Leonard withdrew from the team, Team USA Basketball director Grant Hill elected to choose Brown's Boston Celtics teammate Derrick White for the open roster spot over Brown.

Naturally, that led to Brown calling out USA Basketball and Nike, the official brand for Team USA. Brown alluded to Nike being the reason he was kept off Team USA, which led to a back-and-forth between him and Hill.

Grant Hill responds to Jaylen Brown calling him out back in 2024​

While Team USA ended up winning the gold medal game against France. It was a magical run for the USA because it showed that they are still the top dogs in international basketball. However, the French players did make it hard for them, especially with Victor Wembanyama showing out during that tournament.

Brown had to watch at home because he was not part of the team. However, he might not have even played because his longtime running mate Jayson Tatum had limited minutes during his time in Paris. He only averaged 17 minutes per game, and he did not even play in two games, including the semifinals.

It has been a couple of years since the Olympics, but Brown is expected to be chosen in 2028 if Hill and the rest of USA Basketball continue to see him in a positive light. However, there is still some animosity there between the director and Brown.

"I called Jaylen. We had a great conversation. Unbelievable conversation. And so something got lost there. And the implication that like a shoe company like to me that, look you guys can criticize my leadership," Hill said on the Road Trippin' Show about his spat with Brown back in 2024.

"You can criticize the ability to put together a roster. When you’re in a role that I’m in, you open yourself up to criticism, and I accept that. But to imply that, like a shoe company told me what to do. Now you're questioning my character, and that was the thing that was weird."

This is likely something that has stuck with Brown since then. He still has a chip on his shoulder because of it, and since then, he has elevated his game. By 2028's Olympics in Los Angeles, it will be interesting to see how Team USA decides. the roster.
