It’s not every day that the worlds of auto racing and professional basketball collide. But on Sunday, one of the world’s premier racing events will take center stage in Indianapolis, Indiana — the same city that the WNBA’s Indiana Fever call home.
Fever superstar, Caitlin Clark, was on hand at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 to serve as Grand Marshal.
Following an emotional week across both the auto racing and sports worlds, anticipation continues to build for Sunday afternoon’s race. Clark joined several notable figures in making predictions for this year’s Indy 500 winner.

Armed with a Sharpie, Clark signed a bottle belonging to Marcus Ericsson, the Swedish driver who competes in the IndyCar Series for Andretti. The moment quickly circulated on social media as local sports stars and fans gathered around the excitement surrounding the Indy 500.

Several of Clark’s Fever teammates, including Lexie Hull, also attended Indy 500 pre-race festivities. Clark, however, will take on an even larger role as this year’s Grand Marshal — an honor that reflects her growing impact on Indianapolis sports culture.
The Grand Marshal role is considered one of Indiana’s highest ceremonial honors, traditionally reserved for major celebrities or prominent figures with strong ties to the community. As Grand Marshal, Clark will deliver the iconic pre-race command to the field of 33 drivers: “Drivers, to your cars!”

Clark selected Ericsson as her predicted winner, though he will start 17th on the grid. Still, few drivers understand the magnitude of the event better than Ericsson.

Ericsson captured the Indianapolis 500 title in 2022 and now hopes to add another major victory to his résumé. Along with his Indy 500 triumph, he previously won the Formula BMW UK championship and the 2009 Japanese F3 title.
Will Clark’s prediction come true? Can Alex Palou repeat as champion? Or will a new winner emerge from “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” on Sunday?
