At long last, the New York Jets have their starting quarterback for 2026.

The Jets have traded for quarterback Geno Smith and a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft from the Las Vegas Raiders. In return, the Jets are sending a sixth-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Raiders, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

With the trade, Smith immediately becomes the starting quarterback for the Jets next season.

How did the Jets do in this trade of landing their next starting QB?

Geno Smith to NY Jets grade: C-

Once Oregon quarterback Dante Moore decided to go back to the University of Oregon in mid-January, the answer at QB was always going to be in the free agent or trade market for the Jets.

Yes, Smith is a veteran presence and knows this organization well after spending the first four years of his career at MetLife Stadium.

However, quarterbacks rarely ever get better with age and Smith, turning 36 during next season, proved that during his lone season in Las Vegas.

I don't see it going much better for Smith compared to last year or anywhere near his 2022 campaign with the Seahawks where he lead the NFL by completing 69.8 percent of his passes and threw for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns.

The Jets had a much better bridge option quarterback available in Kyler Murray, a former No. 1 overall pick and only 28 years old at near the veteran minimum ($1.3 million), but opted to go with familiarity in Smith instead.

All signs point to it being another one and done season for the Jets at quarterback, who will all but likely be heavily invested in the highly anticipated quarterback class in the 2027 NFL Draft as they're armed with three first round picks.
