Argentina vs. Egypt’s Round of 16 game is already smashing records.

For many, Argentina’s insane 3-2 comeback win over Egypt is already the game of the tournament at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As a result, it’s expected to shatter some major World Cup viewership records once the official numbers are in. But before that, Lionel Messi’s knockout game has already broken one Google record.

Nick Fox reveals what Google record was broken after Argentina’s game-winning goal​

After erasing Egypt’s 2-0 lead, thanks to Messi’s assist and goal, Lionel Scaloni’s men hit the final nail in the coffin with a 93rd-minute header from Enzo Fernandes.

The goal sent shockwaves among fans, and it was confirmed by Nick Fox, Google’s SVP of Knowledge and Information.

“Google Search broke all prior usage records and saw its highest usage in history right after Argentina scored their winning goal in yesterday’s match,” Fox wrote on X.

He added, “Great to see the global excitement for the World Cup… can’t wait for the semis and final!”

This shows the insane popularity that Argentina have around the globe, particularly because of Messi’s presence on the team.

Argentina are now all set to take on Switzerland in the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Will that game break more Google records? Only time will tell.
