May 3—Every time Quentin Coleman steps on the court he does something that generates more "he's the next one-and-done Illini" sentiment. Like Saturday at the Iverson Classic at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va.
Coleman was named MVP at the all-star event after leading Team Loyalty to a 142-138 victory against Team Honor. The future Illinois guard scored a game-high 31 points on 11 of 16 shooting, including 4 of 7 from three-point range, to go with 12 rebounds and two steals.
That performance didn't come against scrubs either. Coleman teamed up with some real stars like Oregon-bound Tahj Ariza and played against even more on Saturday night. The Team Honor roster included USC-bound twins Darius and Adonis Ratliff and future Arkansas wing Abdou Toure. Yet it was the future Illini's star that shined brightest. All five of them.
Coleman also had a strong showing at the Jordan Brand Classic on the all-star game circuit. The 6-foot-4 guard, who officially flipped from Wake Forest to Illinois with a Final Four eve commitment before signing two weeks later, projects to be an immediate contributor in Champaign. Like Keaton Wagler and Kasparas Jakucionis before him.
