I doubt Goldy wins, but if Lovullo doesn't win it'll be a travis-sham-mockery!

Rookies should be a given.

The D-backs have had a few rookie Managers win the award. None of them lasted as long as expected.

I am happy to see Lovullo as a finalist. It might be best if he doesn't take home the trophy his first year.

I like him and what he's done, but let's see how it goes next season without JD Martinez. Goldy is a finalist for MVP of the NL, but JD was the MVP of the team.

It is like the old joke from Mad magazine about three pizzerias in one block. Luigi's -- best pizza in the city. Antonio's -- best pizza in the state. Irvings -- best pizza on the block.

In this era of everyone uppercutting and the League smoothing out the baseballs, the GM plays a more important role than a good Manager by providing home run hitters.

I love what Lovullo has done. But I hope he doesn't get NL Manager of the Year. It is a jinx for D-backs new Managers.

And with no JD Martinez to protect Goldy and carry the team, we're going to have a letdown in 2018.

I would rather not see Torey highlighted for a letdown.

Congrats Torey. Now it is up to his GM to give him (and us) a roster that will not take a step back in 2018.

The largest single factor is a JD Martinez-like hitter to protect Goldy in the lineup. Without that, we are not a playoff team.

Congrats to "paisan" Torey Lovullo for a job well done. In other (former) D-Backs manager news Chip Hale is headed to Washington as a 3rd base coach for Dave Martinez' staff.

We certainly could always use another big bat... but protection is a myth. Goldy's numbers after the trade were actually worse than his stats beforehand.
