There usually is not much controversy surrounding the Defensive Player of the Year award in the NBA, but this year has been completely different.

When San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama was ruled out for the season with a blood clot, it was a free for all for the award.

From the time the French star went down until about two weeks left in the season, the race was almost exclusively between Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels.

That was until Golden State Warriors legend Draymond Green inserted himself into the conversation on his podcast.

Mobley received the honor last week and the Warriors star seems to be taking the loss well, but he was not a fan of Garland’s comments.

On a recent episode of his podcast, Green urged Garland, “Don’t be a clown.”

The two recorded an episode of the four-time NBA champion’s podcast back in January, so there isn’t believed to be any bad blood between them.

But Green has been outspoken during his team in the league and portrayed himself as someone who won’t bite their tongue.

He and Garland will probably look at the dispute years in the future and laugh about it, but for right now there is a little bit of tension.
