Golden State Warriors fans haven’t yet seen the version of Jimmy Butler who nearly led the Miami Heat to a title in 2023. Instead, Butler has been playing a well-rounded team-first brand of basketball. With Stephen Curry sidelined by a hamstring strain, the Warriors may need Butler to up his production if the franchise wants to book a spot in the Western Conference Finals.

After Golden State's 93-117 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on May 8, Butler noted that if the time comes for him to take over and put his team on his back, he's still capable of doing so.

"I play basketball the right way," Butler said. "I will continue to play basketball the right way. If that time comes where (I'm) supposed to score 40 or 43, whatever the case may be, then I'm capable of it. I can do it. But I love making sure that my guys are comfortable passing the ball to them, taking the right shots at the right time."

Butler, 35, is averaging 18.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists during the 2025 playoffs. Clearly, he has another level he can reach. As such, Warriors fans should likely prepare for a "breakout" game from the veteran forward. After all, without Curry in the rotation, Butler is now the primary offensive option, especially in the clutch.

Right now, the Warriors are tied 1-1 with Minnesota. The Warriors are still firmly in the mix to win the series. Therefore, Butler will likely continue to play within the confines of Steve Kerr's system. However, at some point, he may have to dust off his cape and lead his team to victory, and that is exactly why the Warriors decided to acquire him at the Feb. 6 trade deadline. Butler is a proven commodity in the playoffs. At some point, he’ll remind everyone why he will remind the world of that fact.
