As of early December, the Houston Rockets had lost 15 straight times to the Golden State Warriors, dating back to the 2020-21 NBA season.
But since then, Houston is 2-1 in three games versus its longtime rival, with the only loss a close one in February on night two of a back-to-back.
The latest win, on Sunday in San Francisco, puts the 2024-25 Rockets (52-27) on the brink of securing the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Houston is now 15-2 in its last 17 games.
In game-night comments, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said there is a clear identity for the Rockets that has formed under second-year head coach Ime Udoka.
Kerr explained:
Led by Amen Thompson, Houston went on to hold Golden State to 96 points in Sunday's victory. Future Hall of Famer Steph Curry scored only 3 points on 1-of-10 shooting (10.0%), representing his lowest career point total in any game playing at least 30 minutes.
It's conceivable the Rockets and Warriors could meet again in the 2025 NBA playoffs — and for once, there's actual momentum on the Houston side of that rivalry.
The Rockets (109.4) rank fourth among the 30 NBA teams in defensive rating this season. Among others in recent weeks, Curry was quite complimentary of the Rockets after Sunday's game, with particularly strong words saved for Thompson.

Athleticism. Defense. They have an identity. Ime's done a great job establishing who they are. They've got a lot of great athletes, several years in a row in the (draft) lottery. They've put together a really good roster, good free agent signings with (Fred) VanVleet and (Dillon) Brooks. Formidable team, for sure.
