The U.S. men's national team has been facing several key injuries to midfielders just as the World Cup is quickly approaching. And that all could line up as a major opportunity for one of the program's brightest talents.
After going into the 2022 World Cup with a surprising demotion to the bench, Gio Reyna has struggled to leverage that disappointment into motivation on the club side. He's battled injuries, shaky club situations and inconsistent playing time for much of this cycle.
But when he does get called into USMNT camp, the 23-year-old Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder performs. This week, Reyna was asked about his chances of making Mauricio Pochettino's 26-man World Cup roster.
Reyna couldn't have given a better answer.
He said via ESPN:
Honestly, that's the growth and awareness that the U.S. staff must love to hear from Reyna.
Reyna is coming off scoring his first club goal since January of 2025. But for all his struggles at the club level, the talent is there.
We'll have to see if Pochettino thinks that's enough.

"If I say no, I'm not backing myself. And if I say yes, it's the arrogant answer where I feel like I should be there. It's a hard question to answer."
