Giants' Rafael Devers trade plans arrive exactly 1 year after Red Sox deal originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The San Francisco Giants traded for Rafael Devers on June 15, 2025 in a blockbuster deal from the Boston Red Sox.
On June 15, 2026, Devers has re-entered the trade discourse.
It took just one year for Devers to go from a franchise-changing acquisition to a player on the trade block again.
The news came from ESPN's Buster Olney, who shared this on X on what could amount to a wholesale sell-off for the Giants:
The Giants are open to offers for their three highest-paid position players — Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, Matt Chapman — among other obvious trade candidates, like Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray.

Devers being joined by Willy Adames and Matt Chapman on the block, as well as Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray, tells you how poorly this season is going for the Giants.
As far as dealing Devers, things won't be easy. He has a gigantic contract, and his hitting ability continues to show that it might be on the decline.
Devers will likely be a solid enough hitter for some years still, but if he isn't a useful defender or baserunner, the bar is rather high for how good he has to be at hitting to make himself worthwhile. And to live up to his contract? He has to be an all-world hitter.
With all that in mind, the Giants probably wouldn't get a whole lot in a trade for Devers, but it could be worth it enough for them simply to get his salary off their books.
Clearly, this is an admission that they got the trade with the Red Sox wrong. And it took only 365 days to reach that conclusion.
