The New York Giants selected Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick in this year's draft.
Mauigoa, known as "Sisi," was widely considered the best tackle in the draft, but the Giants aren't going to play him there. They plan on moving him inside to guard.
The Giants already have two top tackles in Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor, with second-year riser Marcus Mbow waiting in the wings. At some point, they may bump Sisi outside, but for now, he'll be at right guard, sidling up next to Eluemunor.
Eluemunor had a near-Pro Bowl season in 2025, and the Giants made sure he didn't get away in free agency this spring, inking him to a three-year, $39 million deal, keeping him in Blue through the 2028 season.
Eluemunor is excited about playing next to the massive rookie, who is 6-foot-5 and change and nearly 330 pounds. He's been in touch with Sisi several times since the draft and will meet him this week as the Giants' rookies assemble for minicamp on Friday.
"In the next week, I'll be with him just trying to teach him what I know and make things a lot smoother for him," Eluemunor told The New York Post.
"Yeah, Jermaine reached out after the draft, after the pick," said Mauigoa. "I'm really excited to be working with him. He's a right tackle. They want me to play right guard. We're out here to move people, and that's what we're going to do."
Eluemunor wants Mauigoa to be ready for head coach John Harbaugh's training camp, which will present an additional challenge for the rookie.
"You've got to hit the ground running," he said. "There's no learning period. You get with it or get left behind. That's just been his mentality. You've got to show him why you were drafted, why you deserve to be on the team.
"Once you get drafted, that's great, but once you walk in that building and put on that jersey and that helmet, you've got to show why you're wearing that jersey and why you deserve to be on the team."
Eluemunor is planning on being a guide for Sisi early on, but hopes the rookie can catch on quickly. He swatted down the notion that he was a mentor. He feels more like a teammate.
"Mentorship sometimes means you're towards the end of your career, and I'm nowhere near that. I'm right in the middle of it. So, for me, I'm going to bring him along with me. He's going to be right next to me, hopefully for a long time," Eluemunor said.
