New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo took to social media Saturday to respond publicly after comments from a recent interview sparked widespread discussion across the NFL community. The rookie acknowledged his words and offered a direct statement on the matter.
“I recently did an interview and had a lapse in judgment, which resulted in me making a tasteless joke about CTE and asthma," Skattebo posted to X. "It was never my intention to downplay the seriousness of head injuries or asthma. I sincerely apologize to anyone that was offended by my remarks, and I assure you that I’ll be more mindful and respectful going forward. Much love !!!”

Skattebo dismissed CTE during the podcast appearance and suggested asthma could simply be overcome by breathing air. The comments spread rapidly online, drawing criticism from fans and observers concerned about player safety topics. Reactions ranged from support for his candor to calls for greater awareness around long-term health issues in football.
TRENDING#Giants star RB Cam Skattebo says that he does NOT believe that CTE IS REAL and it is all in your head.

As the NFL continues emphasizing protections for athletes, Skattebo’s response comes at a pivotal moment for a young player still building his professional reputation. The Giants drafted him in the fourth round last year, and his early tenure has included both promising flashes on the field and now this off-field moment. Many within the organization view the apology as a step toward maturity, especially as the team prepares for the upcoming season and focuses on building a competitive backfield.
Skattebo’s willingness to address the situation directly may help move the conversation forward.
Skattebo showed real promise in 2025 before a season-ending injury cut his campaign short. He played eight games, rushing for 410 yards on 101 carries (4.1 yards per attempt) with five touchdowns.
He added 24 receptions for 207 yards and two more scores. Skattebo's explosive running style quickly won over Giants fans and established him as a building block for the backfield despite the limited sample size.
