The 2026 Premier League of Darts has just a couple of weeks left, and fans have already voiced how they feel the current format used in the past few years has become stale.

The same eight players play week in and week out, and players could play each other very often, which some think takes away from how special it is when the top players face off or when we see rivalries renewed.

Well, current Premier League player Gerwyn Price recognized this complaint that fans have communicated, and went to social media to propose a new format change idea that we have never seen in darts before.

Gerwyn Price proposes intriguing Premier League Darts format change, with royal rumble component

Gerwyn Price posted on Facebook his plan for a revised Premier League Darts format.

Weeks 1-9

To start, Price suggests the Premier League return to a 10-player field, as we saw not too long ago, before the eight-player nightly bracket format was adopted.

This format consisted of five matches each week, in a best-of-12-leg format where players could get points with wins or through a draw.

In Price's proposal, after nine weeks of the 10-player field, the top eight players move on to the rest of the season's weeks, while the bottom two players are eliminated.

Weeks 10 -16

With eight players remaining after nine weeks, Price says the format should return to how it is now, with matches taking place until a nightly winner is found each week.

Royal Rumble twist

The twist is that throughout the season, a 'royal rumble' match takes place between the second and third matches of the night.

Two random players would start this process, with the winner of this match moving on to the following week.

The winner would then play a new mystery opponent that is revealed right before the match takes place. This is where a Darts x WWE crossover could take place, as a player's song would start playing, indicating who is set to take the stage, allowing the fans to react in real-time.

The winner of the entire Royal Rumble series would then be given a belt, prize money and a spot in the next year's Premier League.

Price says the qualification for the Royal Rumble challengers would be "The top 8 from the one-year order of merit and 8 highest-ranked players on the one-year order of merit outside the premier league selected players."
