Gerry Sandusky details his emotional final Baltimore Ravens broadcast

For most of the 2025 season, nobody around the Ravens knew Gerry Sandusky had already decided it would be his final year calling games. During an appearance on The Lounge with Ryan Mink and Garrett Downing, Sandusky opened up about the emotional moments following Baltimore's playoff loss to the Steelers and how he finally told longtime partner Rod Woodson that his career was over.

Sandusky explained that he intentionally kept his retirement decision private because he never wanted it to become a distraction during the season.

“Because I knew it might be the last game, I had my son with me in the broadcast booth… Zach, my son, and I and Rod walked back to the hotel and on the way back to the hotel, I stopped and said, ‘Rod, listen, that was it for me.’”

Sandusky also revealed Woodson initially didn't want to believe it.

“He didn’t want to believe it. He’s like, ‘No, no, no.’ You know, he’s like, ‘No, you sure.’ You’re just getting caught up in the emotion.”

The moment highlights just how close the relationships become over years of traveling together, calling games together, and sharing unforgettable moments around the NFL. While fans will always remember Sandusky's iconic calls, it's clear the personal relationships built over those 20 seasons mattered just as much to him.
