The German Men’s National Team has seen success like no other team over the past century, only second to Brazil. The South American powerhouse last won the 2002 World Cup, beating Germany 2-0 to secure their 5th World Cup, but have not seen as much success as the side they beat since then.

In this installment of the World Cup, both Brazil and Germany have played their opener games. Brazil drew 1-1 to Morocco — a game wherein Morocco was clearly the better side. Clearly, the self-proclaimed A Maior do Mundo (Best in the World) are a little further from their expectations than they’d like. Until this game, Brazil held the record for all-time top scorers at the World Cup, moving up to 238 with the lone goal from Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr.

However, the German situation was drastically different. Die Mannschaft faced Curaçao — a Dutch island nation off the coast of Venezuela. The game was clearly in Germany’s pocket from the very first minute and ended 7-1.

Houston, for once, witnessed German rockets. They may not fly to space, but they land where they are supposed to — within the net.

With this game, Germany have secured 239 goals and have now become the all-time top scorers at the World Cup, moving ahead of Brazil by one goal (per @iMiaSanMia.)

If the likes of Deniz Undav, Nathaniel Brown and co. continue performing at this level, even against the heavyweights, Germany may far surpass the erstwhile best in the world.
