Georgia Tech is targeting Troy’s Scott Cross as its new men’s basketball coach and a deal is expected “in the near future,” according to ESPN.
“It’s done,” added a person with direct knowledge who was not authorized to speak for the school.
Cross, 51, went 125-99 in seven seasons at Troy, winning back-to-back Sun Belt Conference titles and reaching consecutive NCAA Tournaments.
The No. 13 Trojans lost to No. 4 Nebraska, 76-47, in the first round on Thursday.
Cross coached at Texas-Arlington/UT Arlington from 2006-18 before taking over at Troy
He will replace Damon Stoudamire, who was fired after going 42-55 in three seasons at Georgia Tech.
Cross is one of several coaches who lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament linked to other jobs.
Siena’s Gerry McNamara is considered a favorite at Syracuse, while USF’s Bryan Hodgson is under consideration at Providence.
