STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — The Georgia Southern baseball team gave up 14 unanswered runs in its season-opening loss to West Virginia, 15-3, on Friday at J.I. Clements Stadium.

The Eagles scored the first run of the ball game in the bottom of the first. Bryson Trammell singled to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

They added to their lead in the bottom half of the second. An RBI groundout gave Georgia Southern a 2-0 lead after two innings.

However, West Virginia was able to hang crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the sixth, eight and ninth innings.

Games two and three of the series will be played on Saturday. The first one is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game has been moved “due to forecasted weather,” according to a statement on the team’s athletic website.
