The Georgia Bulldogs will be returning a major piece of their offense for the 2026 college football season. Running back Chauncey Bowens will be returning for his redshirt sophomore season at Georgia.
The 5-foot-11, 225-pound running back began the season with modest expectations, but he took over Georgia's No. 1 running back role for early parts of the season while Nate Frazier dealt with fumble issues. Injuries hampered Bowens' second half of the year, but he still finished as the Bulldogs' second-leading rusher.
Bowens had 103 carries for 526 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Bowens also added 14 catches for 82 yards.
Bowens was one of three different Georgia players to have at least 100 rushing attempts, 450 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Frazier and quarterback Gunner Stockton both also hit those rushing milestones.
Bowens' decision means the Bulldogs could return him, Frazier, Dwight Phillips and Bo Walker at running back. Georgia is losing power back Josh McCray and third down back Cash Jones to the 2026 NFL draft as both players are out of eligibility. Running back Roderick Robinson is in the transfer portal and isn't expected to return in 2026. The Bulldogs also are losing wide receiver Dillon Bell and offensive lineman Micah Morris to the draft, who both make a significant impact on Georgia's rushing attack.
"Year 3. Let's run it back," Bowens said to announce his return to Georgia. The Bulldogs are still waiting on several other player's NFL draft decisions including quarterback Gunner Stockton and running back Nate Frazier.
Bowens ran for a career-high 119 yards on 12 carries in Georgia's regular season loss to Alabama. He also had a rushing touchdown and four catches for 22 yards (career receiving highs) against Alabama.
