The Georgia Bulldogs are SEC regular season champions after defeating the LSU Tigers 13-8 on Saturday, May 9. The Bulldogs weren't supposed to win the SEC.

The SEC coaches pickedGeorgia to finish No. 9 in the conference in the preseason with LSU being predicted to win the SEC. Georgia didn't have a single individual player as a preseason first- or second-team All-SEC selection.

It is safe to say the Bulldogs have proved their doubters wrong. The same SEC coaches that picked Georgia to finish ninth in the conference have had to face Georgia's electric lineup and it hasn't gone well. Georgia has lost just one series in SEC play all season.

Daniel Jackson leads Georgia with a .374 batting average, 24 home runs and 70 RBIs, which all lead the SEC. Georgia averages 9.6 runs per game and has 138 home runs, which are both the most in the SEC.

In Georgia's series-clinching win over LSU on Saturday, the Bulldogs scored eight runs in the second inning. LSU starting pitcher Marcos Paz recorded just four outs before being pulled. Georgia built up a 12-3 cushion before LSU cut into the Dawgs' lead over the final two innings.

"It's massive," Georgia manager Wes Johnson said after winning the SEC. Johnson used to work at LSU as a pitching coach. "It's so hard to win this league, and then win it outright. It's something that you want to check off on your list of things that you've ever accomplished. It's right up there. It's hard to do. It's ten weekends of just meat house grinding."

Everything went right for Georgia on Saturday. The Bulldogs got losses from Texas and Texas A&M to clinch the SEC title with four games left in conference play. Georgia won the SEC at Foley Field on senior night.

Georgia has clinched the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament and should be a lock to host a super regional in the NCAA Tournament. Georgia had not won an SEC regular season title since 2008.
