The No. 18 St. John's Red Storm welcome the Georgetown Hoyas to Madison Square Garden in Big East action tonight.
The Johnnies beat the Hoyas 95-83 on the road earlier this season, and my Georgetown vs. St. John's predictions expect an even bigger blowout at home.
Here are my best free college basketball picks for this clash on Tuesday, March 3.
Georgetown vs St. John's best bet: St. John's -16.5 (-110)
The St. John’s Red Storm rank 14th nationally in adjusted defense and are set to stifle the Georgetown Hoyas, who sit 265th in eFG% and lost leading scorer KJ Lewis to a season-ending injury last week.
Defensively, the Hoyas rank outside the top 200 in opponent TO rate, defensive rebounding rate, and opponent FT rate — a major problem against St. John’s, which limits turnovers, dominates the glass, and gets to the line at a very high rate.
In their last five home games, the Johnnies have beaten Butler, Creighton, and Villanova by 20+ points while also taking down No. 4 UConn 81-72.
With the Hoyas missing Lewis, someone has to take charge of the offense — and that role will likely fall to second-leading scorer Malik Mack (13.8 ppg), fresh off a 17-point outing and 18 points against St. John’s in their previous meeting.
Tonight is Senior Day, and Johnnies coach Rick Pitino is focused on honoring center Zuby Ejiofor, who is averaging 16.9 ppg in Big East play. Expect Pitino to give his big man plenty of minutes and looks against a soft Hoyas interior.
Ejiofor is more than just a scorer — he also leads St. John’s in rebounds (7.2) and assists (3.6) per game. He’s coming off a triple-double and put up 25 points, 10 boards, and seven assists in his previous matchup against Georgetown.
