It’s bad enough for the rest of the NFC West that Myles Garrett is now a member of the Los Angeles Rams. What could make things even worse for the 49ers, Cardinals and Seahawks is if Aaron Donald decides he wants to play football again.

The Rams acquiring Garrett has piqued Donald’s interest in a potential return to the NFL, though he still hasn’t made a decision just yet. 49ers tight end George Kittle, for one, is hoping Donald decides to stay retired and enjoy the time with his family after accomplishing everything he possibly could have in the league.

“My only message is really, ‘Hey, Aaron. You’re enjoying retirement. You’re fantastic. You had a great career. You won your Super Bowl. You’re one of the best defensive players of all time. Just, you’re good, man. You’re great. Keep working out, hanging out with your family. You’re incredible. Don’t do it. Don’t do it,’” Kittle said on the “New Heights” podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce.

The 49ers know what it takes to stop a dominant player like Donald, and they’ll apply similar rules to Garrett twice a year now. Kittle expects them to slide everything toward Garrett, hoping that the Rams’ other defenders don’t have career games against them.

“I will say like when we were playing the Rams twice a year with Aaron Donald, you get the ‘Aaron Donald treatment,’ which is like, ‘Hey, everything slides to him,’” Kittle said. “You run runs that avoid him. You always have four hands on him. So I'm not saying – they're both amazing players, but you just got to do the same thing with Myles. You have a Myles Garrett game plan and you just got to hope that no one else decides having the best game of their life.

“At some point, they're inevitable. But you just got to hope that those couple of plays aren't strip sacks or forced interceptions or something like that.”

Jason Kelce praised Garrett for being the closest thing to “an alien” that the NFL has seen, which prompted Kittle to compliment the Rams’ newest defender, too.

“He’s unreal,” Kittle said of Garrett. “He’s got the reflexes, and then he can get to the quarterback in three steps. He’s slippery. He’s a really good player. Hey, what a good challenge. Can’t wait.”

Dealing with Garrett will be a handful for Kittle and the 49ers, but Donald returning would make things exponentially more difficult.
