George Kittle isn’t exactly helping Brandon Aiyuk’s relationship with the San Francisco 49ers. As Aiyuk continues to publicly push for a departure from San Francisco, Kittle appeared to take a subtle, and sarcastic jab at his teammate during a recent appearance on Pardon My Take, adding another layer to one of the NFL‘s most awkward offseason storylines.

The drama surrounding Aiyuk has been building for months. The star wide receiver recently posted a video on social media in which he could be heard yelling, “Go Commanders!” — a message that many interpreted as another attempt to make it known where he’d like to play if the 49ers eventually move on from him.
Washington has long been rumored as Aiyuk’s preferred landing spot, and his recent social media activity has only further fueled those rumors. While discussing various topics during his podcast appearance, Kittle was asked about the ongoing situation involving Aiyuk. Rather than offering a strong defense of his teammate, the All-Pro tight end delivered comments that came across as playful but clearly sarcastic. He said, “You have fun with all that comes with it,” in response to a team trading for or signing Aiyuk.

At one point, Aiyuk looked like one of the NFL’s rising stars at wide receiver. Now, however, the conversation surrounding him has shifted almost entirely away from football and toward his future with the organization.
The 49ers have remained firm throughout the process and have shown little interest in granting Aiyuk’s wishes. Despite repeated speculation about a trade or release, San Francisco has yet to make any move that would indicate a split is imminent. That leaves Aiyuk stuck in limbo as training camp approaches.
For now, the standoff continues. Aiyuk appears determined to push for a fresh start elsewhere, while the 49ers continue to hold their ground. Kittle’s comments may have been made in jest, but they also highlight just how unusual this situation has become inside one of the NFL’s most successful organizations.
