[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Running back Eddie George and the Cowboys have agreed in principle to a one-year, incentive-laden deal that is worth close to $2 million, two sources close to the situation told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. All George, who has battled foot problems in recent seasons, has to do is pass a physical.

"We would not entertain any situation unless he had an opportunity to start," George's agent, Lamont Smith, said.

Titans

A day after cutting George, Tennessee signed Antowain Smith, New England's leading rusher the past three seasons.

Smith, 32, who led the Patriots with 642 yards rushing for a 3.5 average last season, reportedly will make $660,000 with a $25,000 signing bonus.

I hate to see a perfectly good thread go without a response, so here's this, courtesy of Bratwurst...

Hmm. Kind of muddys the picture for fantasy football enthusiasts, but I think it's a smart move by the cowboys.

I'm a little surprised that the Redskins didn't go after him. Yeah, yeah, they have portis, I know...but Portis hasn't played a full season yet, and Gibbs likes his bruisers in short yardages situations (as well as others). Plus, Portis had Mike Anderson taking some punishment for him last year, too. Who's playing the role of Mike Anderson with the Skins?

So much for tampering rules. Anyone else think that - just maybe - there had been some advance work by various parties to get this deal done so fast?

To put it a bit differently" When's the last time the Cardinals moved that quickly to sign a guy they had their eye on the day after he became eligible?

Why? It doesn't sound "done" to me. It's a deal in principle; George probably knew what he's accept and what he wouldn't. Jones knew what that was and made an offer within those parameters. George can't be picky (and he knows it), and the Cowboys needed a vet RB. It's a good fit, IMO. Deals like this shouldn't take long.

Eddie should have waited until Williams' announcement - he would have been more valuable!

The Cowboys are a team that is clearly pro-active in trying to put a winner on the field. Not only do they hire perhaps one of the best coaches in the NFL but they go out and get players. Perhaps anyone of their 3 QB's could end up as a starter for our team. Here we are going with a guy who has stared 3 NFL games. We have a questionable running game and are going with a 35 yr old running back who's best days are well behind him and seem to be stuck in quicksand in signing any other free agents. If you guys see this team winning more than 5 games then you have x-ray vision. The only way this happens is if McCown actually is all that Green proclaims and we can actually run the ball.
