Gattuso to Test Best Lazio Starting XI Against Frosinone
Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso will take the opportunity to field his ideal starting lineup in Sunday’s friendly against Frosinone.
Frosinone to Host Lazio on Sunday
The Biancocelesti have already won their first five summer fixtures, beating their Primavera team and four sides from the lower Italian divisions. Therefore, the Canarini will be their only top-flight opponent in this pre-season, having earned a promotion to Serie A at the end of last season. The contest will take place at the Stadio Benito Stirpe, and it kicks off on Sunday at 20:45 CET.
Gennaro Gattuso to Unleash His Strongest Lazio XI
As Il Messaggero explains, Gattuso is planning to field his best available starting XI, as this will be his last test before next weekend’s Coppa Italia tie against Mantova, which will be followed by the first Serie A fixture of the season against Bologna on August 24.
Two New Faces at the Back
The 48-year-old tactician will start with Christos Mandas in goal. The Greek in now the first-choice custodian following Ivan Provedel’s transfer to Inter Milan. With Alessio Romagnoli’s future shrouded in mystery, Oliver Provstgaard will be promoted to a starting role at the heart of the defence alongside new signing Danilho Doekhi, while Adam Marusic and Alfonso Pedraza will complete the backline.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s Role Will Determine Lazio’s Shape
In the middle of the park, Nicolo Rovella will reclaim his Regista role after a season plagued by injuries. The Italian international will connect with Kenneth Taylor, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiru could feature in a hybrid role between a box-to-box midfielder and an attacking midfielder, with Gattuso going back and forth between his favorite 4-2-3-1 system and Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3.
Tijjani Noslin to Get the Nod on the Right Wing
In attack, the misfiring Boulaye Dia should lead the line, as Petar Ratkov could be sold to Dynamo Moscow, who reportedly offered €18 million for his services. The Senegalese striker will be flanked by Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni and Tijjani Noslin, who has usurped Matteo Cancellieri in the pecking order, while Gattuso’s first-choice right-winger, Gustav Isaksen, is still recovering from surgery.
Lazio Probable XI (4-3-3): Mandas; Marusic, Doekhi, Provstgaard, Pedraza; Dele-Bashiru, Rovella, Taylor; Noslin, Dia, Zaccagni.
Lazio Fans Ready to Take Over the Stirpe
The report also expects more than 2,500 Lazio supporters to flock to the stadium, creating a similar scene to the one witnessed in Ascoli last Sunday. The organized fan groups will continue to boycott all home fixtures as part of their protest against club president Claudio Lotito, but they intend to make their voices heard on the road.
