Our defensive backs are the studs of the defense. They allow Baker to run free without giving up big pass plays.

Hopefully Robinson is who we thought he was coming out of the draft.

This defense might be a lot better than we all thought to start the season.

Might be?

I am very happy with the secondary. Budda looks incredible, Garrett Williams is turning into a star. Starling and Melton look like average starters. The middle linebackers have been solid. The D-line isn't good, but it isn't a disaster. The Olb's have been good against the run, and as expected bad rushing the passer.

Basically every position group other than the OLB's has outperformed my expectations.

The way they grade is highly dependent on who the CB is covering. I really like Williams and think he’s the Cards best CB, but he needs to refine his skillset more to be thst highly rated.

The only thing missing so far with the secondary is interceptions. Once we start getting picks this defense will be a playoff factor.

I can think of 2 Melton should have had, one for Williams and one for Rabbit. Hopefully they start working on their catching skills.

If only we had talent in our front seven that was remotely comparable

Speaking to that, nickel is increasingly a base package, I would think.
It can be for sure. The issue with it is that it is game script dependent. For example, if we play the Chiefs who are also 2 TE heavy, Garrett is on the field significantly less. Also, because of zone heavy shell schemes in the NFL, outside CBs are tasked more to play safe and not give up big plays. For me, this is just another example of why you have to take PFF grades and rankings with a grain of salt.
