Garcia was given the medicine by the trainers!

This was just reported by Frank Garcia himself on CH 10. He took it for allergies, and it was given to him by the trainers after he asked him for advice.

Man, that really sucks.

Ugh, poor guy...if he's missing out on money because of this, I'm sure something has to be done by the team to make up for this...specially if the trainers GAVE him the medicine...

I'm sure the trainer feels terrible, but what can they do? They can't slip him money under the table. Maybe they could extend his deal one year and give him that money in bonus.

This is bad for Frank, but it gives me a bad feeling for the team too. We had great depth going into camp, but now we have many guys on the o-line dinged and two top guys, Garcia and Roundtree, out to start the year.

Anyone consider the "amount" found in the test? Either way it's another blow to an already fragile o-line. How doeas an appeal work?

I wonder if Workman's Comp somehow comes into play here - I know that term is for getting hurt while on the job - but the trainers are employed by the organization and it is their negligence that apparently will lead to Gracia's dock in pay. The Cardinals organization - Bidwill should cover lost damages taken from the league -I know that's probably not possible - but if an employer's worker injures someone during the course of their job - it is not the employee who usually has to bear the brunt of fiscal responsibility - it is most always the employer's burden - at least that's what my two years of law school tell me should happen - Ouchie - got any thoughts?

The statement that Garcia was given the illegal medication from the trainers is 100% not true.

He called the trainers and asked if he could take NyQuill. He did in the evening and it didn't offer any relief. He took it again in the morning and again no relief. It is then when he used his wife's allergy medicine without permission. That medicine contained ephedra which is illegal in the NFL's eyes.

As for Frank Garcia, he should sue the league for being a bunch of idiots. Zero tolerance, WHAT A CROCK! The man has a case and can't even defend himself. THis is like Salem, MA all over again. IT is witch hunt. Take free speech and throw it out the window. SOOOOO STUPID! And frustrating.

From what I gathered this morning on the radio, Garcia tried to file an appeal when he was notified about the "bad test" back in June, and that appeal was denied.

This is crap.

Being an allergy sufferer myself, his story rings true. My allergies get so bad sometimes that I can't breathe! My asthma inhaler has steroids in it. Thank Gad Frank didn't go for something like that.

When you are in the midst of a severe alergy attack, you grab what you can. You don't read labels, you don't look up a medicine's contents on WebMD.com!

Someone tells you it works, and you take it.

If his random drug test was one day later, his test would have come up clean.

Second, if he didn't - does the team and the League give players fair warning that they must research the contents of whatever they ingest or face the consequences?

If the answer to either of the 2 questions is "no", then the NFL is wrong-headed to have suspended him and doubly wrong-headed to have denied or modified the appeal.

But, then again, these are the same bozos who fined Matt Millen for not interviewing minorities for a vacancy he created because he wanted to hire Mooch; and the same clowns who screwed up televised preseason football this year.

So what can you expect.

They have posters with a toll free NFL number plastered all over the locker room. If they call, they can get any information that they need on a particular substance.

It doesn't seem fair that this guy gets four games while a drug user gets a first warning. Other than that he got the drug from his wife at 2 in the morning. The NFL is scared to death of this drug becuase of 1 or 2 past expierances with the drug and death.

Untill someone dies of Coke, or weed you will only be slapped until you hit I think the 3 time, then you start losing money and time. For this mistake it will cost Garcia 4 games and about one quarter of his money. Not Fair..YES! Policy of the league under zero tolerence. YES!

Garcia should have known better, regardless of how idiotic the rule is.

I believe that the Cardinals coaching staff may have penciled Garcia in as the starting center. The Cardinals orginization (and Garcia) have known about this issue for some time now. It is my belief that this knowledge about his pending possible suspension prompted them to push a move for Kendall to play center instead.

I didn't see this on Channel 10. Are you quoting him as saying that the trainers gave it too him? Or is that your interpretation. I would think it would be a big deal if the trainers gave him the wrong medicine or if they OK'd his bad choice.

He said he checked with the trainers, so he thought it was okay. But, according to Jim O, he did not have the "ok" to use the medication that got him in trouble.

I believe it is a felony to use someone else's prescription even though people do it all the time. Better hope Rick Romley doesn't find out or he'll try to make more headlines.
