His name was William Hosterman.
He was the principal of Lightner Elementary School in the Central York School District when I was in third grade. He began an elementary school volleyball program that started me on a love affair with the sport that continues more than five decades later.
Most athletes and former athletes have their own Mr. Hosterman. There is that one coach or mentor who led them in the early years, before they started on their high school athletic journeys.
