Well, here's that play. At least 2 open. The Dortch pass is open if it's timed but we don't do that. But Trey wideass open.

We throw this exact pass to Trey 5 times a game, but yes, he decided it was going to Marv and that was his one and only read.

I'd even argue that the pass to Marv is on but that's a timing throw. The ball needs to be release before Marv turns for him to come back and make a play on the ball.

I think the idea that WR's are juking CB's out of their socks is a false one. Most WR's get open because they know the route and where to be and at what time, the CB does not. The separation comes from that understanding with the QB and that it takes a CB a half second to adjust. Especially so in off man coverage.

Guys like Puka Nacua are great because they have that understanding with their QB and the QB gets the ball where it should be at the right time.

Yes, there are times a WR does that, but the vast majority of the time when they get 2-3 yards it's only for a small window because they hit their break at the right time and the ball should be there.

Eh he’s open early but the linebacker is sitting there at the end of his route.

The reality is I’m kind of floored that’s the route combination. It looks like something I would expect to see from a flag football game where the coach is a dad who never played football. There’s no real combo route, no run, nothing to scheme any of them open. It looks like just run to different areas and hope your receiver creates separation. It’s pretty damn lame imo.

this is the scheme issue. This is basically a one man route. Full clear out for McBride. The other irritation is that the CB is 9 yards off Wilson and no adjustment to throwing a quick pass to him. It's either not built in (which I am starting to believe) or it's not being coached (also likely).

I feel like this example is more damning for the OC than Kyler but I don't know why you are here if you don't like the thread.

It's a clear out and there doesn't seem to be an built-in adjustment for the soft coverage. The DBS are basically playing off the verts knowing the Cardinals won't adjust.

The only critique of Kyler in that above play I would have is, funny enough, not getting to the RB (checkdown) in the flat once the LB jumped McBride's route. There is no one on that side of the field.

For stop route that's open. We throw this all the time to Trey, and yet he's going to get instantly gang tackled, but it's open all the time. The LB's aren't getting there to cut that off.

We can either believe that it's not Kyler and both Kliff and Petzing are running very similar isolated route concepts from a limited tree (5 yard stops, crossers, go's, digs) even though they are from very different backgrounds. Which seems like some coincidence.

Or that both adjusted how they pass the ball to suit Kyler's abilities.

Considering that would require reading a defense and going through reads, that seems unlikely.

Just another example of Murray not being able to throw receivers open. Dortch could have been thrown open. At one point so could have McBride and then Benson was also available but Murray was locked on Harrison.
