Months of training have led to this moment for 20 Gainesville-area boys and girls basketball teams.
That group, which qualified for the FHSAA postseason, begin their arduous journey on Friday, Feb. 13, for the girls and Valentine's Day for the boys.
20 teams is a lot for the Gainesville area but, unfortunately, most begin on the road. All three Gainesville city schools in boys and girls earned postseason bids, but all six begin on the road.
GHS is a No. 8 in both; the boys begin at Fleming Island and the girls at Booker T. Washington. Buchholz is a dreaded No. 5 seed in both; the girls open at Lake Howell, and the boys in the panhandle at Milton.
The eighth-seeded Eastside girls are at Bishop Moore, and the fourth-seeded Rams boys visit district champion Eustis.
Newberry boys and girls, both at home, and multiple Rural teams – such as Trenton boys and Williston girls – round out the matchups.
Keep it here for all scores throughout the Valentines Day weekend!
