LAS VEGAS – Gable Steveson isn't focused on the odds, regardless of how eye-popping they might be.
Entering his promotional debut Saturday at UFC 329, Steveson (3-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is a -2166 favorite on average across major online sportsbooks and prediction markets according to BestFightOdds. He faces Elisha Ellison (5-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in a heavyweight prelim at T-Mobile Arena.
"This is a perfect debut opponent for me," Steveson told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a pre-fight news conference Wednesday. "All respect to Elisha for taking this matchup. I come out there, and like I said, treat everybody the same whether it's Derrick Lewis or Josh Hokit, Tom Aspinall or Ciryl Gane. But my matchup Saturday is what I'm looking forward to, and that's all."
Steveson entered MMA with a tremendous amount of hype, as an Olympic gold medalist, standout wrestler, professional wrestler with WWE, and NFL tryout athlete. Given the shallowness of the heavyweight talent pool, it's led some to say he could compete with the upper echelon of the UFC as is.
Regardless of opponent, Steveson is treating all assignments the same, no matter the odds, whether it be Ellison or a UFC titleholder.
"It doesn't matter to me," Steveson said. "I come to show up and do the best thing I ever possibly do, and that's win. That's all that matters to me."
