Gabe Vincent slams Kobe Bryant fans for criticising Bam Adebayo’s 83-point game

Former LA Lakers and Miami Heat star Gabe Vincent believes people criticising Bam Adebayo for breaking Kobe Bryant’s record are being ridiculous.

Adebayo broke Bryant’s 81-point scoring record earlier this year, but earned a fair amount of criticism for chasing the record.

However, Vincent, his former Miami Heat teammate, believes that Adebayo did nothing wrong in trying to break Bryant’s record.

Gabe Vincent defends Bam Adebayo chasing Kobe Bryant’s record​

Speaking on the Numbers on the Board podcast, Gabe Vincent was asked about Bam Adebayo breaking Kobe Bryant’s 81-point scoring record, as one member of the show said he didn’t like how it went down.

Vincent noted that Bam had the opportunity to do something only one other person in the history of the NBA has done, and had every right to chase that record.

“Why is it a problem to score more than Kobe? He gotta shoot more turnarounds or what? If there was more step-backs and crossovers and he had 83, would you like it more?


“If you got close to doing something seven billion people on the planet have never done, would you not want to do it? You only get 48 minutes!

“Think about all the great players that have touched our league, tried to be in it, or could be in it. Fouls or not, it’s not easy to put up 83 points in a gym by yourself.

“I gotta tip my hat. We still don’t have footage of Wilt… Obviously Bam is my guy, but I feel for him from the backlash he got.”

Some fans felt that Adebayo was too blatant in his attempt to pad his scoring numbers against the Washington Wizards, settling for an egregious amount of free throws.

Adebayo scored 36 of his 83 points from the free-throw line, with the rest coming from field goals. There is some valid criticism to be had about how the game had been officiated and how easily he got to the line.

But even with that, there is no denying that what Adebayo managed to do was historic. The officiating in the NBA has been a lot more rewarding to offensive players for years now.

However, no other offensive player in the NBA has managed to get close to the record, with the likes of Devin Booker, Luka Doncic, and Damian Lillard all getting close with 70-point outings.

And for anyone suggesting that Adebayo was wrong for trying to chase a record that means so much to people, Kobe Bryant would be the first to tell them that’s wrong.
