Lonni Alameda is a cornerstone of both the Florida State softball program and the Tallahassee community, and the Seminoles' head softball coach is set to be honored by the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Foundation.
At the 20th annual Cards for Cure event, set for Sep. 12, the TMH Foundation will honor Alameda's "longstanding advocacy and support of cancer patients, as well as her own courageous breast cancer journey," according to a press release.
“Coach Lonni has a special way of making our patients feel seen, supported and cared for,” said Kathy Brooks, oncology service line administrator at TMH, a breast cancer survivor and the first Cards for a Cure honoree 20 years ago.
“Long before her own diagnosis, she regularly visited with our patients, celebrating their strength and reminding them they are not alone. We are grateful for the encouragement and compassion she continues to bring to our patients and families.”
Alameda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2025, and worked through her treatment while remaining the head coach of the Seminoles program, leading the team to a super regional in 2025 and a regional in 2026.
Even through her own battles with cancer, Alameda continued to support patients joining her in the fight.
She donated $47,000 to the cancer center in August of 2025, with funds raised from shirt sales of the pink breast cancer ribbon paired with Alameda's famous hair braid sold by Garnet and Gold and Alameda's own donation. The money helped pay for treatment, transportation, hospital stays, and more for patients battling breast cancer.
“Coach Lonni has inspired our community for years, not only through her incredible success on the softball field, but through the compassion and kindness she shows to others,” said Nigel Allen, president and chief advancement officer of the TMH Foundation. “She and her players have been regular visitors to our Cancer Center. We are honored to celebrate her as our 2026 Cards for a Cure honoree and recognize the lasting impact she has made.”
