After initially announcing he would be returning for his sophomore season, Florida State forward Thomas Bassong is entering the transfer portal, according to ESPN's Jeff Borzello.

Bassong became a key member of Luke Loucks' inaugural team down the home stretch, playing in all 33 games with 17 starts, including in 16 of the final 17 games. He averaged 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game to go with 21 steals and 13 blocks.

While his shooting will need to improve, his defensive ability made him a priority for FSU to retain. He scored in double-figures five times last season, including a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double on the road against Georgia Tech in the best offensive game of his young career.

He is originally from Paris, France, and shot 48.6% from the floor, 26.0% from 3-point range, and 54.4% from the free-throw line. The 6-foot-8, 203-pounder was the first high school commit that Loucks landed and will have three seasons of eligibility at his next school.

FSU has added four transfers this offseason, all of whom are considered four-star prospects. The group consists of point guard Anthony Robinson II (Missouri), guards Kameron Taylor (UNC Asheville) and Shon Abaev (Cincinnati), and forward Sebastian Rancik (Colorado). They also have a top 10 high school freshman class coming.
