FROSTBURG — Frostburg State senior pole vaulter Tom McCoy will be the first Bobcat in the program's Division II era to compete at the NCAA national championships, as revealed on Wednesday.

The two-time Mountain East Conference (MEC) outdoor champion broke both the meet and program records at the MEC Championships clearing 5.11m.

McCoy's 5.11m were tied for ninth in Division II, qualifying him as one of the top 22 pole vaulters.

McCoy is the first track and field athlete to represent Frostburg at the national tournament since shot putter JR Lowery finished runner-up in the 2017 Division III championship.

The NCAA championships begin on Thursday, May 22 at the CSU-Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado with the pole vault starting at 11:05 a.m.
