FROSTBURG — Frostburg State scored 21 unanswered points and outscored West Liberty 14-0 after halftime to win 21-7 Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.
Frostburg (3-0, 1-0 Mountain East Conference) tied the game on Owen Doyle's nine-yard touchdown run with 8:59 left in the second quarter, and it took the lead on a one-yard Doyle scamper with 12:04 remaining in the fourth.
The go-ahead drive spanned 92 yards on 11 plays.
The Bobcats added an insurance score with 4:57 to play when Jordan Brooks connected with Cruiz Paul-Aumstead for a 34-yard touchdown.
Frostburg out-gained West Liberty 373-232 and limited the Hilltoppers to 2 for 6 on fourth down and 1 for 3 in the red zone. Both teams threw an interception.
The Bobcats had two 100-yard rushers in Doyle (19-125) and KJ Smothers (15-118), racking up 248 yards on 36 carries as a team.
Brooks completed 9 of 19 passes for 137 yards. Paul-Umstead was his top target with two catches for 54 yards, and Tra'Shaun Timmons had four receptions for 42 yards.
Harrison Fritz was 3 for 3 on extra points.
West Liberty's Kohl Meisman was just 17 for 40 passing for 123 and an interception.
Hunter Patterson, whose two-yard touchdown run with 13:18 left in the second quarter marked the team's lone points, had 18 carries for 89 yards.
Carter Mazalewski led the Frostburg defense with 10 tackles, Will Burns had an interception and Kurt Thomas forced a fumble, though West Liberty recovered it.
West Liberty's Sawyer VanMatre intercepted a pass.
The Bobcats' 3-0 start is their fifth in as many seasons.
