The Texas Longhorns have one of the richest baseball traditions in college sports. With six national titles and the most appearances in the College World Series, UT has had dozens of historic performances. But freshman Anthony Pack Jr. has done something Texas has never done. Pack hit three home runs in an NCAA Tournament game as the Longhorns handled Holy Cross 19-1 to open the postseason.
The SEC Freshman of the Year hit three home runs in his NCAA Tournament debut in Texas' regional opener against Holy Cross on Friday in Austin. Pack became the first Longhorns player to hit three home runs in an NCAA Tournament game. It only took Texas 65 post season appearances to complete the feat. Pack only had seven home runs all season.
The first of Park's homers came with two-out in the first inning. He also homers in the third and fifth innings. The Longhorns scored in every single inning, racking up 19 total runs on 21 hits.
Holy Cross was held scoreless until the ninth inning when left fielder John LaFleur knocked in a run.
Texas will face the winner of Friday's second game between Tarleton State and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.
