Freddie Freeman Roasts Former Teammate for Pickoff Attempt

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman had a hilarious response to a pickoff attempt Tuesday night.

Freeman, 36, is no speed demon, but Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Michael Soroka still threw to first a couple of times to try to catch him off base.

Freeman, who played with Soroka on the Atlanta Braves for four seasons from 2018 to 2021, seemed both baffled and a little offended that he had to dive back to the bag.

That consternation, however, quickly turned to laughter.

Considering Freeman’s stolen bases in recent years, it almost had to have been a joke.

So far this year, Freeman has stolen two bases.

Last year, he stole six bases, and the year before, nine.

In fact, he stole 23 bases in 2023, but otherwise, he’s never stolen more than 13 in a season.

And those numbers aren’t because he’s bad at stealing; it’s more that it’s rare for him to try.

He’s never been caught stealing more than five times in a season.

In addition to playing together on the Braves, Freeman and Soroka have a lot in common.

Both share Canadian roots, with Freeman’s parents hailing from the country and Soroka being born and raised in Calgary.

While they haven’t shared the field for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic, they’ve both played on the team.

Freeman played for Team Canada in 2017 and 2023, and Soroka pitched for them in 2026.

Both also endured similar tragedies as children. Both Freeman and Soroka lost their mothers to melanoma, Freeman when he was 10 years old and Soroka when he was 12.
