PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - JULY 4: Matias Galarza of Paraguay and Michael Olise of France argue as Rayan Cherki of France tries to separate them during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round Of 16 match between Paraguay and France at Philadelphia Stadium on July 4, 2026 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. France have filed an official appeal for the yellow card shown to Michael Olise in its Round of 16 victory over Paraguay. A scrappy affair that left French players flustered, the match nonetheless ended with no yellows for Paraguay and three for France.

It is the one given to the Bayern Munich winger that is leaving France feeling aggrieved.

From L’Équipe, via @iMiaSanMia:

France have now gone ahead and appealed to FIFA to rescind Olise’s yellow card against Paraguay. Matías Galarza went to the ground holding his face, but replays showed Olise was only holding his shirt. Pending a response from FIFA

The French Football Federation (FFF) is exploring possible appeals to have the yellow card shown to Michael Olise in the 97th minute against Paraguay overturned. Olise was booked for an altercation with Matías Galarza. The yellow card could have serious consequences because Olise would miss a potential semifinal if he’s booked against Morocco [@lequipe]

Now as anyone who follows the game has always known, an upheld red card does not mean the player will be suspended for the next game — only that they will be suspended for a game. Usually that is the next one, but it could also be some other game some time later if FIFA feels like it.

All levity aside, the card given was light, with a legitimate case that it was given in error. This will be a good opportunity to correct it.
