The Mets have found a scapegoat for their 11-game losing streak —and it’s not Carlos Mendoza.

On Monday, Sean Hannity dedicated an entire segment on his Fox News show to the Mets’ latest skid. According to the conservative host, there’s nothing wrong with the roster construction of the team and the manager shouldn’t be shouldering the blame either.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, however, is the reason according to Hannity

“And by the way, the New York Mets, they are on an 11-game losing streak... right after the Mayor met and hugged the team mascot, Mr. Met, at Citi Field on April 9,” Hannity said in a clip shared on X/Twitter, “a phenomenon people are calling ‘the Mamdani curse.’”

The Mets’ losing streak reached 11 games after Sunday’s 2-1 loss in Chicago. This has extended a troubling pattern for Mendoza that includes last season’s late collapse that cost the Mets a playoff berth.

Recent managerial decisions have drawn criticism.

On Saturday, Mendoza removed pitcher Freddy Peralta in the sixth inning of a 1-1 game, and Brooks Raley surrendered a three-run home run on his first pitch.

Sunday’s game featured an unconventional pitching plan, starting reliever Tobias Myers before bringing in scheduled starter David Peterson. Devin Williams later blew a save in the ninth inning.

In extra innings, Mendoza chose not to intentionally walk Cubs leadoff hitter Nico Hoerner with first base open and the winning run on third. Hoerner delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly.

It’s fair to note that Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns expressed confidence in Mendoza on Friday before the Cubs series.

The Mets return to Citi Field on Tuesday.
