The assembly line of Power 4 bound prospects to come from Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech will continue in the 2028 cycle with four-star wide receiver Mylan Griggs, who yields a Michigan offer.
The Wolverines were among the early schools to offer Griggs last year. The interest the former coaching staff had on him carried over to the new regime, with Griggs visiting Ann Arbor back in March.
“Recruitment has been going good, man,” Griggs told Maize n Brew. “I’m just staying focused, trusting the process, listening to my coaches and my family. They know what’s best for me, and I know what’s best for me, so just making sure I keep my head on straight. I’m too humble to let anything get to me, so I just make sure to stay focused.”
The spring return was Griggs’ first opportunity to see the wide receivers’ development under new position coach Micah Simon.
“Everything’s been good,” Griggs said. “Me having a great relationship with coach Simon, me just making sure that he knows that I’m interested, and they’re letting me know that they’re interested in me. That was big for me.
“I like the accountability that the team held to each other. Even when you made a mistake or you dropped a pass, you can do some pushups. Or when they all huddle up, you got to do some pushups in front of everybody to show that you took accountability and you’re going to make the next play.”
Simon has received immense praise for his recruiting ability based on how those recruits he’s pitching to come to Michigan have said about him. Griggs likes the professional standard that Simon carries.
“Simon is energetic,” Griggs said. “He’s going to make sure you know he’s paying attention to details. He’s going to make sure everything is on one accord. All the receivers. They mess up, (he says), ‘We got to run or do something.’ He makes sure that he puts in discipline towards them.”
Earlier this summer, Cass Tech held its annual spring showcase during the contact period. Simon attended to see Griggs in action.
“He said that I’m sharp,” Griggs said. “When he saw me at the showcase, he said, ‘You good boy’ (laughs). I said, ‘coach, I’ve been trying to show you’ (laughs). Coach Bellamy, I’ve been around him for a couple of years ago. He knows how I get down.”
Michigan will do battle with the likes of Illinois, UNC, Texas Tech, MSU, Kentucky, Nebraska, Miami and others for Griggs. Plans are for him to attend at least one Michigan game this fall.
“I want to see explosiveness from the receivers,” Griggs said. “I want to see great play calling on defense and offense.”
Griggs is listed as the No. 262 overall recruit and No. 36 wide receiver in the country, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
