The Texas Longhorns made a significant addition to the 2027 recruiting class on Saturday with the commitment of Brookhaven (Miss.) edge Derwin Fields during a visit to the Forty Acres.

The 6’2.5, 230-pounder chose Texas over Ole Miss, where he had an official visit scheduled for the end of May. Among the 21 total offers for Fields are Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, and UCLA, among others. A consensus four-star prospect, Fields is ranked as the No. 196 player overall and the No. 20 edge, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Over the last two seasons at Brookhaven, Fields has recorded 117 tackles, 47 tackles for loss, 27 sacks, and three forced fumbles.

Fields is the ninth pledge in the 2027 recruiting class for the Longhorns that now ranks No. 14 nationally. Texas now holds two commitments from edge prospect in 2027 with Fields joining Mansfield Summit standout Cameron Hall.
