Three quarterbacks lead the local contingent of four players who were named Region All-Stars over the last week of selections by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.

Alexandria’s Brady Gast was named a Region 5 All-Star as an ATH while Lapel’s Devin Craig and Shenandoah signal caller Jarrett Helman earned nods from Region 8 along with Pendleton Heights defensive tackle Jacob McKinley.

Craig was named as a quarterback while Helman, a two-way player like Gast, was selected as a linebacker.

Under center, Gast authored a quarterback rating of 133.0 while completing 130 of 196 passes for 2,095 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. He was only intercepted four times and added 321 yards on the ground. He added 15 tackles defensively for the Tigers.

Gast will continue his football career at Franklin College next season.

Craig helped lead the Bulldogs to a 13-1 record and the program’s first regional championship last fall. He completed 246 of 392 passes for 3,325 yards and 42 touchdowns while adding 314 yards and five more touchdowns on the ground. Craig finished his career with one of Indiana’s all-time top 10 totals in passing yardage. He will play for Georgetown College in Kentucky next year.

With 1,673 yards and 21 touchdowns passing and over 700 yards and nine scores on the ground, Helman authored one of the better comeback stories of the year. After missing most of his junior year with an injury, he also led the Raiders with 99 tackles – 53 of the solo variety – and four interceptions with two fumble recoveries and a pair of blocked field goals.

A three-sport standout with Shenandoah, Helman has not announced his college plans.

A key member of the stout Pendleton Heights defense, McKinley had 55 total tackles, including seven for a loss and 31 solo stops. He added five sacks for 45 yards lost, hurried opposing quarterbacks 17 times, and led the Arabians with three forced fumbles.

While he has not announced his intentions, McKinley has offers for football, including one from Wabash College.

The association also announced its Academic All-State selections, with Gast, McKinley and Helman included.

Langdon Ashby, Will Rowland, Ian Newland, and Jon Aiman joined Gast in representing Alexandria while Cooper Sims, Rylan Keesling, Grant Ellis and Dylan John were named from Pendleton along with McKinley. Karter Gray was selected from Shenandoah in addition to Helman.
