As Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres watched his ninth-inning home run sail into the left field sky Tuesday night, the two-time All-Star thought about the man who helped him reach the big leagues.
Torres’ longtime agent, Scott Pucino, passed away on Sunday in Illinois. A quick glance at Torres’ social media Tuesday night made it clear just what he thought about Pucino.
“This one is dedicated to you Scott ” Torres wrote on his Instagram story following the 6-4 loss to Houston.
A cause of death has not been announced for the 71-year-old Pucino, who represented various MLB players. In addition to Torres, Pucino worked with Kansas City Royals superstar Bobby Witt Jr., Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez, and St. Louis Cardinals All-Star catcher Willson Contreras.

Pucino notably helped then-Seattle Mariners ace Félix Hernández earn a record-setting seven-year, $175 million deal ahead of the 2013 season.
Torres and Pucino worked together through the highs of the slugger emerging as one of the Yankees’ most promising prospects in recent memory, and the lows of a bitter divorce with the Bronx Bombers.
“Love Pucino,” Torres posted Tuesday. Thank you for everything. Rest in Peace.”
Torres entered play Wednesday hitting .292 with 14 RBI, a .794 OPS, and 0.4 bWAR over 80 plate appearances. The 28-year-old has a career-best 8.8 strikeout rate, and his .350 on-base percentage is on track to be his highest since the shortened 2020 season.
