"When you watched the tape on (Chig) Okonkwo, what did you see?"
That was what Grant Paulsen asked former Washington Redskins tight end Logan Paulsen five days ago on their "Take Command" podcast. Well, on Wednesday, Day 3 of the 2026 free agency signing frenzy, the Washington Commanders actually signed Chigoziem Okonkwo, the former Maryland Terrapins tight end.
How did Logan Paulsen respond last week after reviewing some tape of Okonkwo? "This dude is a stud. Man, he is a stud. He is small, but he is mighty. I'll tell you that right now. He's small, but this dude is a maniac, and I love him. If you wanted a guy to fit this role for Washington, this is the guy."
"If I can see it, every team in the NFL can see it. I think Chig is going to make more money than (Isaiah) Likely in free agency this year. In terms of route suddenness, he is vertically fast. He can attack the seam, he can stretch you vertically in the defense. There's great stuff of him trying to get rerouted, chop the arm down, get behind that second level defender, inside the safety, ball on target, big play, right?"
He runs corners at a high level, can stretch you vertically from there. As a choice route runner, there is a little bit of clunkiness to his feet ( I think Paulsen made up a word there LOL), but he's explosive. They line him up outside at receiver in a tight split, he can run a backside dig. After the catch? I love how he attacks defenders."
Drafted in the fourth round (143 overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, Okonkwo played in all possible 68 games, starting 42 in his four seasons with the Titans. In 194 receptions, he averaged 10.4 yards per reception, catching eight touchdowns and 90 first downs.
