The book of Chris Petersen, written by former Washington Huskies standout wide receiver Dante Pettis, will have to wait at least another month, if not more.
Pettis, a seven-year veteran of the NFL who last played in the league in 2025 with the New Orleans Saints, signed with the Buffalo Bills after the team waived receiver Jalen Virgil, the team announced on Thursday.
The AFC East organization, which already has ex-UW tight end Keleki Latu on the 90-man roster as training camp begins, has signed other former Husky football players over the past few years, including former Petersen safety Taylor Rapp, who made 158 total tackles and a pair of tackles for loss over 20 games combined in 2024-25 for the Bills.
Pettis played two seasons for the Saints from 2024-25, where the ex-UW record-holder finished with 21 catches (39 targets) for 247 receiving yards and a touchdown in the Bayou State. Prior to that, Pettis spent one season with the Chicago Bears (2022) and split time in 2020 between the team that took him in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft, the San Francisco 49ers, and the New York Giants.
In his first two seasons in the NFL, the current NCAA record holder with 9 punt return touchdowns, made 33 total appearances for the 49ers with 11 starts, ending his time in the Bay Area with 38 catches (70 targets) and 576 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Since then, Pettis has strolled the sidelines of Husky Stadium with an old-fashioned camera in hand rather than hauling in touchdown catches in the NFL. Still, the former JSerra Catholic High School (San Clemente, Calif.) has landed on a roster in training camp with the potential for year eight on tap.
