Former Washington Huskies star edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka's time in the NFL has come to an end.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles placed the former first-round pick, who was selected at No. 32 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2021 NFL draft, on the reserve/retired list after he was the only veteran who missed the team's mandatory minicamp, a move that came just three months after the 27-year-old signed a one-year, $1.4 million deal with the NFC East team.
After four years with Tampa Bay, during which he played in 66 games and tallied 138 tackles, with 21 for loss and 15 sacks, the Buccaneers declined to pick up the fifth-year option on his contract, making him a free agent.
He signed a one-year, $4.75 million deal with the Cleveland Browns, but played in just eight games before he was dealt to the Chicago Bears at the trade deadline. However, he didn't fare much better in the Windy City, as he compiled just 22 tackles with just a single tackle for a loss between the two teams before he hit free agency again and inked his deal with the Eagles.
Over 25 games with the Huskies, the in-state product of Renton's Hazen High School compiled 61 tackles, with 14.5 for loss and 9 sacks, 8 of which came during a breakout 2019 campaign. However, following the COVID-19 pandemic, he chose to sit out the shortened 2020 season to preserve his health and prepare for the NFL draft.
