With the rumor mill abuzz in the early part of the NBA offseason, former Washington Huskies star Isaiah Stewart has found himself on the trade block.
According to a report from The Athletic's Sam Amick, the Detroit Pistons have made the former No. 16 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft available after six years in the organization. He's headed into the third season of a four-year, $60 million contract that he signed ahead of the 2024 campaign, with a team option for the 2027-28 season, and he could be viewed as a valuable trade chip.
"League sources say Detroit Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart is available," Amick wrote. "The Pistons, in search of additional shooting and playmakers, appear ready to rely on seventh-year big man Paul Reed in an increased role."
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, it didn't take long for several teams to show interest in the former UW star, who averaged 17 points and 8.8 rebounds per game during his one season on Montlake.
“Boston is known to be looking for frontcourt upgrades and has liked Stewart for some time, sources say," Fischer wrote. "I'm also told that we should list San Antonio and Miami as teams interested in the Pistons' bruising big man.”
Moving forward, Stewart doesn't appear to be viewed as a long-term building block in Detroit, as general manager Trajon Langdon views the trio of All-NBA guard Cade Cunningham, All-Star center Jalen Duren, and All-Defensive First Team wing Ausar Thompson as the future.
"We know that we need to be more equipped to compete in the postseason, and that’s what we’re looking into: adding pieces that help accentuate our three best players," Langdon said in a press conference on Tuesday.
Coming off a season in which he finished seventh in voting for the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award, Stewart has put together a solid career with the Pistons. He's averaged 8.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game across 365 games, while he's also established himself as one of the league's biggest tough guys.

Welcome to the final days (most likely) of the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.
Here’s what @sam_amick is hearing around the league:
