Pittsburgh (57-57) defeated Milwaukee (69-43), 4-3, on Monday at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 30,684 were in attendance for National League series opener.
Former Tennessee baseball pitcher Garrett Stallings pitched three innings in relief for the Brewers. He recorded four strikeouts and 43 pitches, including 29 strikes, against 12 batters. The right-handed pitcher allowed two hits and one walk.
The Pirates hit five fly balls against Stallings.
Pittsburgh and Milwaukee will continue a four-game series on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 7:40 p.m. EDT.
Stallings made his MLB debut on July 2. He played for the Vols from 2017-19. Stallings appeared 52 games, including 35 starts, and pitched 251.1 innings. The right-handed pitcher recorded 182 strikeouts, two saves and a 16-14 record.
He is from Grassfield High School in Chesapeake, Virginia.
