Just one week into July, the anticipation for basketball season is quickly building. Several former Tar Heels, most notably Coby White, found themselves amongst the largest NBA free agency deals.

As we get deeper into the offseason, NBA teams will also have to trim their rosters. One former UNC player, unfortunately, finds himself amongst those roster cuts.

Power forward Pete Nance, just a few months removed from his best professional campaign, is no longer a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Milwaukee is re-building, as evidenced by its blockbuster trade of superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat. The Bucks landed several draft picks and young prospects in return and, while Nance could be part of a lengthly rebuild, he'll now search for his fourth NBA home in four seasons.

Nance averaged career highs of 5.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and one assist per game in 47 appearances (six starts) for Milwaukee during its 2025-26 season, which ended with a 32-50 record and a missed postseason for the first time since 2016. Nance landed in Wisconsin via free agency last year, seemingly carving himself out a solid reserve role.

Pete Nance will be sorely missed.

Hope they bring him back on a 2-way. https://t.co/ajeM9wLJVdpic.twitter.com/umh0TTwVq8

In Chapel Hill, Nance was part of the infamous, 2022-23 North Carolina squad that went from preseason number one to missing the NCAA Tournament entirely. Making matters worse, those Tar Heels declined an NIT invitation, a tournament they would almost certainly earn a top seed in.

Nance is just 26 years old and fresh off his best NBA season. As teams start shaping their rosters for the year ahead, Nance should find himself a new home in no time.
